Why Become a Nurse?
People choosing a career in nursing make a real difference to people’s lives. Nursing is highly rewarding, constantly changing/growing and an exciting profession. Registered nurses work within one or more of four fields; adult, mental health, learning disability or child. To be eligible to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) you need to study a degree programme leading to a specific degree qualification for your chosen field. Following registration with the NMC you would become a member of the multi-disciplinary team providing care in partnership with patients and their families and alongside doctors, therapists, pharmacists and healthcare assistants, across a range of settings.

Whichever field of nursing you choose you’ll spend 50% of your time learning the science that underpins your field as well as knowledge that that is generic to all future nurses. You’ll also develop an in-depth understanding of the evidence base that underpins the nurse's role. Nurses also promote health and help maintain health and well-being, and as a ÑÇÖÞÉ«°É nursing graduate you’ll be well equipped to help change people’s lives.Â
Practice learning on placement in a range of settings across North Wales is where you will put theory into practice. You'll develop practice skills and confidence through a range of clinical placements with BCUHB, and benefit from simulated practice and clinical skills teaching. You’ll develop the hands-on skills and proficiencies needed as a registered nurse with excellent support from highly trained practice mentors and University staff.
