
Overview
Emily is a Reader at the Centre for Health Economics and Medicines Evaluation, Chair of the 亚洲色吧 Researcher Development & Concordat Group, and an Honorary Research Associate at the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, University of Liverpool. 听In 2021 Emily was awarded Health and Care Research Wales Rising Research Star and in 2022 she participated in both the Welsh Crucible and Aurora Leadership Programme for Women.
Emily鈥檚 research interests and expertise include preference elicitation and the influence of human behaviour on the cost-effectiveness of interventions. 听She currently holds a five-year Health Research Fellowship awarded by Health and Care Research Wales to investigate the economics of rapid diagnostics to reduce antibiotic prescribing in Wales (TRaDe); and is co-lead of the NIHR Grace Project, creating patient-centred infrastructures to enhance informed consent and improve patient experience of radiotherapy for gynaecological cancers . 听Emily is keen to advance interdisciplinary research of global health concerns. 听In 2021 she set-up the 亚洲色吧 Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Research Interest Group and in 2023 became a founding member of the Wales Active Travel Research Consortium (ATLAS). 听Emily also supervises several research students conducting research in preferences for healthcare delivery and benefit-risk assessments of treatments.听
Emily graduated in Economics at the University of Liverpool and started her career at the University of Manchester, before taking her position at 亚洲色吧. 听She completed her doctoral research in behavioural economics and health psychology of medication adherence. 听 听Emily has over 70 published papers and conference proceedings and edited health technology assessment reports for the All Wales Therapeutics and Toxicology Centre (AWTTC) for several years. 听More recently, she has led on bi-lingual (Welsh & English) public engagement activities for children and adults to learn about Health Economics at National Festivals and University Community Days. 听Emily was an inaugural member of the International Society of Medical Adherence Research (ESPACOMP) ECR committee. 听Currently, she is a member of the Health and Care Research Wales Faculty and Chair of the Doctoral Fellowship Awards Panel. 听She is also a member of the LISTEN, FASAR & GRRAND (NIHR) Trial Steering Committees, 亚洲色吧 Athena SWAN working group, and the 亚洲色吧 healthcare and medical sciences academic ethics committee review panel.

The role of the Steering Committee is to provide overall supervision for a project on behalf of the Project鈥檚 Sponsor and Funder and to ensure that it is conducted to the rigorous standards set out in the Department of Health鈥檚 Research Governance Framework for Health and Social Care and the Guidelines for Good Clinical Practice. Emily Holmes was invited to join the NIHR GRRAND (Getting Recovery Right After Neck Dissection for Head and Neck Cancer) trial steering committee, based on expertise in Health Economics. The primary objective of the trial is: To determine whether a personalised physiotherapy-led rehabilitation programme (the GRRAND programme) or best usual practice, NHS, post-discharge care is the most clinically effective and cost-effective approach for improving health-related outcomes in adults after neck dissection for HNC.

Activity: Participation in Academic conference (Speaker)亚洲色吧 Antimicrobial Resistance Research Interest Group. Colleagues were invited to a lunchtime seminar hosted by 亚洲色吧 Antimicrobial Research Special Interest Group (SIG) to spread awareness of interdisciplinary research in the field of antimicrobial resistance. The seminar featured presentations on "Welsh AMR Survey" (Maggie Knight, Postdoctoral Researcher, School of Environmental & Natural Sciences) and "Public perceptions on antibiotics and antimicrobial stewardship in Gwynedd" (Bernard Okeah, Lecturer in Adult Nursing, School of Health Sciences).

The workshop engaged local people and organisations interested in improving access and opportunities for active travel to share their views and to learn more about how 亚洲色吧 could generate evidence to support future initiatives. The event featured use of stated preference discrete choice experiments to support person-centred design of preventative healthcare intervention. Feedback was positive and sparked debate on the challenges of the geography of North Wales; with requests for further involvement and advice.

Activity: Oral presentation (Speaker)Public engagement in health economics took place at the Science Village during the 2023 National Eisteddfod in Wales, where staff and students of CHEME hosted an interactive stall engaging visitors of all ages. Activities included a card game exploring NHS costs and a creative exercise on measuring health and comparing healthcare interventions. These activities introduced key economic concepts such as opportunity cost and cost-effectiveness while gathering public insights. Designed and delivered by researchers with varying Welsh language proficiency, the sessions attracted up to 150 participants per day, enhancing public engagement with health economics.

On the 7th June 2023 the group hosted a AMR Research Networking Event attended by 19 delegates. The event consisted of six presentations, covering research, policy and practice; and opportunity for networking /round table discussion. Feedback from delegates (n=9) suggested the event was: useful, increased knowledge/awareness of AMR research, was relevant to delegates areas of research/practice, provided connections to people outside their organisation, and stimulated an interest in interdisciplinary research. Eight out of nine feedback responses stated the delegate planned to contact someone they met at the event to discuss their AMR interest and one-third planned to big for funding to support AMR research within the next 12-months.

Emily Holmes was one of 6 collaborators to secure 拢960 from the Learned Society of Wales to run a workshop on Making Active Travel Accessible for Children in Wales. The objective of the workshop was to bring together academics, council representatives, third sector organisations and public health representatives in order to co-produce a grant project proposal that aims to increase child active travel behaviour in Wales. Emily provided expertise on preference elicitation research / behavioural economics that sparked discussion and has been built into current work (INHABIT, Welsh Crucible Seedcorn Funded Project) and future proposals.

(NIHR151549; 拢2,400,081; 02/23-01/28). Health Economics representative on Trial Steering Committee (TSC).
The role of the Steering Committee is to provide overall supervision for a project on behalf of the Project鈥檚 Sponsor and Funder and to ensure that it is conducted to the rigorous standards set out in the Department of Health鈥檚 Research Governance Framework for Health and Social Care and the Guidelines for Good Clinical Practice. The trial is based in 8 UK prisons and is investigating the effectiveness of fluoxetine on males with problematic sexual arousal. The HE component involves service use data analysis at baseline and 6m (final visit). The funder requested a HE representative on our TSC, attending twice yearly meetings for the 5y duration of the trial.

The Aim of the 亚洲色吧 AMR Interest Group is to engage 亚洲色吧 staff and students to advance interdisciplinary research, within the theme of AMR, and promote the use of this research in policy and practice. The interest group is chaired by Emily Holmes, who holds a five-year Health and Care Research Wales Health Research Fellowship, investigating the impact of rapid diagnostics to reduce antibiotic prescribing in Wales.

The programme facilitates and promotes research-inspired innovation and cross-disciplinary collaboration in Wales. Funded by a consortium of Welsh universities, in partnership with the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales, there is a high demand for places on Welsh Crucible from researchers who are beginning to demonstrate excellence in their respective fields. Each year, 30 researchers from across Wales are selected to participate in a series of residential workshops or 鈥榮kills labs鈥 where they explore how they can benefit from working with researchers in other disciplines, how their research can have greater impact, and how they can build international research careers in Wales.

Joint 45 minute presentation with Prof. Paul Brocklehurst on patient preferences for dental examination and treatment. Introduced discrete choice experiments / stated preference methods to a new clinical audience and presented the results of a recent European analysis. Contributed to the panel discussion on patient perspectives, as an expert in preference elicitation and behavioural economics.

Description
亚洲色吧 is carrying out a survey of public attitudes to epilepsy and people with epilepsy in the UK.
This survey will measure the UK public attitude towards epilepsy and people with epilepsy in 2018. They will use a method that can be repeated at future time points, in order to track changing public attitudes over time.
The results from this project will assist Epilepsy Action in planning future work to improve awareness and understanding of epilepsy.
